The U.S.-China Competition and Japan’s Dilemma
要旨
The aim of this presentation is to systematically analyze the ongoing US-China competition and Japan’s dilemma. It focuses on the dynamics of the relationship (such as competition, cooperation, and conflict) between the three powers, examining each country’s strategic considerations. This lecture first looks at theoretical framework of international relations, depicting power transition scenarios between the rising power (China) and the dominant power (the United States), and then discusses the complicated relations among the three powers, focusing on the choice and dilemma that Japan faces, so that we can get a comprehensive understanding of the US-China competition and the role of Japan.

講師紹介
趙全勝（ZHAO, Quansheng）氏
米国・アメリカン大学国際関係学部教授およびアジア研究委員会主任。カリフォルニア大学バークレー校で政治学博士号（Ph.D.）を取得後、ハーバード大学フェアバンク東アジアセンター研究員、アメリカン大学比較地域研究学科長などを歴任。現在は北京大学・清華大学・山梨学院大学の（国際関係研究分野）学術顧問，台湾大学、南京大学、中国人民大学、中山大学等の客員教授。世界華人政治学者フォーラム（Global Forum of Chinese Political Scientists）のコーディネーター、全米米中関係委員会（National Committee on U.S.-China Relations）のメンバーでもある。複数の著書で受賞歴があり、近著には『Great Power Strategies: The United States, China, and Japan』（『大国の戦略――米国、中国、日本』、2023年）がある。
